In this busy world we are always faced with figuring out what to prioritize. Is it going to be our mile long “to do list”, answering emails, or focusing on that health goal? On any given day we are faced with health impacting dilemmas such as “ do I go to this yoga class or attend a networking event for my career” or “I am going to just grab some chocolate for a quick blast of energy because I am in rush”. When you are always on the run it is important to be able to keep up your energy in a nutritious manner. Without the proper fuel, we can fall victim to crankiness, feeling sluggish and really not being the best that we can. I do my best to keep my health at its peak so that I am able to function at my best. One big trick to healthy eating on the go is to make it automatic, convenient and tasty.

For this reason I am going to provide you with 4 tips to make it easier to eat healthy on the go

  1.    Pack nuts and dried fruit – This is one of my absolute favorites! This can satisfy quick sweet cravings and can be quite a treat.

o   Try buying almonds and dried cranberries in bulk and pre-making snack sized bags that you can just grab for an on the go snack. Variety is the spice of life and I find that Trader Joes has a large variety of dried fruits as well as nuts with varied levels of salt content.

  1.    Pack veggies – One challenge is satisfying your hunger when you are on the go. I would want real food and I needed some variety in addition to baby carrots and celery stalks. I have found that in addition to raw veggies, roasting some veggies will do a great job of satisfying my cravings for something a little salty.

o   Try zucchini spears and roasted carrots (click here for an easy recipe) an easy low prep go to is also baby carrots and hummus. Experiment with your favorite easy to grab vegetables as well by slicing with salt, pepper and drizzling with olive oil before throwing into the oven.

  1.    Boiled eggs – Boil eggs at the beginning of the week or the day and you can grab one when you feel low energy. They can be really filling for that moment you are on the run and this allows you to keep on working if you are on a busy schedule.

o   To make it a little more exciting put some salt and pepper or even soy sauce on your egg for a little flavor.

  1.    Understand and plan for your cravings – Often times I find myself in need of an energy blast and will grab chips or chocolate. To understand better I wanted to get to the root of these cravings so that I can pack a snack that would satisfy them.
